So, Andrew Lloyd Webber has been in town all week "mentoring" the six remaining Idol contestants and checking up on the Las Vegas production of "Phantom."
Apparently the contestants will be slogging their way through Lloyd Webber tunes tomorrow night.
So we've got that going for us.
He has also let it be known that he plans to open his sequel to "Phantom Of The Opera" in London in late 2009--this one set in Coney Island and based on the novel, "The Phantom Of Manhattan" by Frederick Forsyth.
Does it bother anyone else that this whole "mentoring" thing is nothing more than a thinly veiled promotional vehicle for whatever new project these "mentors" have coming out?
Is it good for the contestants?
I mean, really?
Last week making those kids sweat their way through Mariah Carey songs (when they've been told ALL year that they shouldn't attempt songs by icons such as Mariah and Whitney, et al) was an absolute joke!
I can't even imagine how they're going to handle songs from Lloyd Webber's library of compositions.
Here's one blogger's early guesses on song choices: Jason, "Any Dream Will Do"; David Cook, "I Believe My Heart"; Carly Smithson, "Music of the Night"; David Archuleta "All I Ask of You"; Syesha Mercado, "I Don't Know How to Love Him"; and Brooke White, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina."
Now that I think about it...I can't see a single one of them being successful.
And why do I even care???
What I should do is buy a dog...name it "life" so I'd HAVE one!!!!
RG...out!
